The places we’ve worked, played, studied, and lived in form large parts of our memories. But, in a city where spaces are so often destroyed and rebuilt, writing may be the only way to keep them alive. In this 2-hour workshop, we will learn and discuss craft techniques used in contemporary writing about place in Singapore. Then, through guided writing exercises, we will generate the beginnings of an essay rooted in a place. Finally, we will discuss techniques to expand and revise the work for publication.
This workshop will be conducted by poet and essayist Max Pasakorn, one of the editors for the sploosh! issue In Another World: Stories from Golden Mile Complex. Participants do not need to write about Golden Mile Complex for the workshop, though they are certainly encouraged to.
