In September we are pleased to welcome Singapore writer, Ng Yi-Sheng, to run a workshop on Myths Re-narrated & Rejuvenated.
It's tough to be an original storyteller. In fact, sometimes it feels downright impossible. So in this workshop, we're going to embrace the derivative nature of fiction: how every new story is influenced by countless other stories told before.
We'll be specifically looking at myths—traditional tales of magic, creation, romance and adventure, from Asia, Europe and beyond. What kinds of power, wisdom and politics are hidden in these stories? How have authors—ancient and modern—drawn inspiration from these narratives? And how can we, as 21st century Singaporeans, use them to create new and relevant stories of our own?
Participants are asked to choose and bring along a favourite myth that they'd like to share in class. They may interpret the term "myth" as liberally as they choose. To register, click on the Eventbrite link provided below.
