COURSE: Kodrah Kristang & Merlionsman present: Accessible Anthroponautics - Kultura Krismatra I

  • Sing Lit Station 22 Dickson Road, #02-01 Singapore, , 209506 Singapore (map)

Merlionsman Coaching & Consulting (merlionsman.com) and Kodrah Kristang proudly present Accessible Anthroponautics: a new series of courses bridging the gap between the past, present, potential and future of Singapore through the culture, language and worldview of the Lion’s City Last People, the Jenti Kristang. With venue support by Sing Lit Station.

Kultura Krismatra I: Kristang Culture, Identity and Thought: Past, Present, Possible and Future

No university department in the world has ever focused on Kristang Studies, and we are actually happy keeping it that way — as creole people, as indigenous people of Southeast Asia, it has always made more sense that our reawakening and revitalization in Singapore since February 2016, too, have always been led by us, our own people, for all the people, Kristang, non-Kristang and everyone else in-between.

This course, too, provides, for everyone and anyone, but especially for the Jenti Kristang of Singapore, a place and space to discuss, critique, interrogate, and most importantly combine and reawaken our culture, identity and heritage as one of modern Southeast Asia’s founding communities, and the guardians of ancient Sundaland’s history, love of diversity and spirit of hope and community that our region, no matter what name is given to it, has always been known for. Over 8 weeks, the Merlionsman of Singapore and the Kabesa of Kodrah Kristang, Kevin Martens Wong, will facilitate and navigate the contours of a new space in Singapore for us, and for everyone of every race and religion whose blood flows in our veins and pounds in our hearts, since our culture has always been open to the world. In this course, we discuss that culture as it emerged in the past under the colonial gaze, as it has reawakened in the present, and as it could be and will be flourishing in the possible futures and actual future of Singapore.

Two worlds; many worlds. Ngua linggu. Ngua jenti. Ngua korsang, mulera, alma kung korpu. No matter who you are, Kristang or not, come and reclaim the heritage of our archipelago, and of our world, mixed, multicultural and magnificent.
