Fiction expresses the inexpressible, illuminates the unseeable, and revives the unrevivable. Regardless of whether you are Kristang or not, the Via Hierosa is a journey that everyone can undertake to liberate themselves from your fears, name and embrace your inner lights and darknesses, and bring yourself back to life โ all while telling an amazing story in any language you feel the most comfortable in in the process.
Over 8 weeks, the Merlionsman of Singapore and the Kabesa of Kodrah Kristang, Kevin Martens Wong, will introduce you to the first 8 stages of the 128-stage Heroโs Journey in Kristang, or the Via Hierosa. A creole, indigenous, neurodiverse, non-binary, LGBTQ+ friendly, spiritually, cyclical/non-linear, Singaporean, Southeast Asian and meta-inclusive approach to the journey of the human spirit, the Via Hierosa has already supported students of all ages, backgrounds, genders, sexualities, races and religions in Singapore government institutions in not just finding psychoemotional safety and growth, but in unlocking their full potential in โthe real worldโ as navigators of their lives within and without.
Using the Via Hierosa and with comparisons to Heroโs Journeys from all over the world, participants will develop a creative work of their choice โ prose, poetry, graphic narratives, non-fiction, visual art, film, music, sculpture and dance are all welcome โ over the 8 sessions of the course in the language of their choice (onsite Kodrah Kristang facilitators will be able to directly support all efforts in English, Kristang and Malay) and, at the participantโs discretion and level of interest, use the work to understand more about themselves and their own inner world and psyche.
