Bridging the gap between text and technology, Sing Lit Station presents an online masterclass series, Zoom A Writer. The Zoom A Writer series gets you up close and personal with poetry, fiction and literary practice in Singapore. Learn about various facets of creative writing from Singapore’s leading writers while baring your soul in the privacy of your own home.
“Writing About the Body” examines the ways poetry and other kinds of writing can change our relationship with our body and how we see it. Body image is one of the most common issues that young people relate to, and most of us never quite leave behind a certain sense of shame or hyperconsciousness about our body. Writing is a big part of processing such thought processes, and of illuminating the shame, confusion, or hurt that might form a big part of this relationship.
This three-hour masterclass aims to unpack the different ways that one can write about their body, and body image issues. In doing so, it seeks to observe how poetry about such a personal matter might begin, be edited, and even evolve into other forms of writing. Amidst these, this masterclass is also an exploration of how the language we use and ways we shape that language can also work in reverse to guide the understandings we have about something so personal and intimate. If you write about your relationship to your body, no matter how complex it might be, then you might just like to enter the chat!
