Confluences #01: A Fireside Chat with Yvonne Owuor

CONFLUENCES is a new series of online conversations, in which Singapore-based poet and editor Alvin Pang chats with guest writers and other friends from around the globe — about work, the world, and creative life. CONFLUENCES is free and open to all, and will be held on Zoom. The link will be announced at least a day before the event.

In this inaugural conversation, Alvin catches up with award-winning Kenyan novelist Yvonne Adhiambo Owuor.

Author of Dust and winner of the Caine Prize for African Writing, Yvonne has also received an Iowa Writers’ Fellowship. Her work has also appeared in McSweeney’s and other publications, and she has been a TEDx Nairobi speaker, a Lannan Foundation resident, and an IWP Fellow. Yvonne's latest novel, The Dragonfly Sea, follows a character whose heritage invokes old ties between Africa and Asia, inflected through a contemporary geopolitical lens.
