PERFORMANCE: "Interstates", Deborah Emmanuel

  • Haque Centre of Acting & Creativity 22 Dickson Road Singapore, 209506 Singapore (map)

What is home?
The planet I am pillaging?
The nation which claims me?
The room that I sleep in
or an unattainable feeling?

Interstates is a one-woman show by poet and performer Deborah Emmanuel, supported by Method Productions. Using a vocabulary of poetry, theater,  movement and song, Interstates explores the idea of home, ownership and the collective identity.

Deborah Emmanuel is a Singaporean writer, performer, and four-time TEDx speaker. Her work and dialogue has featured at festivals like the Makassar International Writers Festival and Queensland Poetry Festival. She has performed on stage and screen with companies like TheatreWorks, Singapore Repertory Theatre, and Mediacorp.

Deborah's first poetry collection, When I Giggle In My Sleep, was published by Red Wheelbarrow Books in 2015. Her creative non-fiction book Rebel Rites launched May 2016. When not writing, Deborah is frontwoman of the bands Wobology and The Ditha Project, and an actor on stage and screen.
