This intimate clinic fills an urgent gap in Singapore’s arts writing ecology: sharp, knowledgeable editors who can act as safety nets and developers of craft for enthusiastic emerging writers.
Participants will engage in a hands-on editing session with actual first drafts of reviews published on Jom, an independent weekly digital magazine focusing on long-form coverage of the arts, culture, politics, business, technology and more in Singapore. You will learn the basics of substantive editing (structure, content, flow), line editing (crafting at the sentence level, word choice) and copy editing (accuracy, grammar, consistency of style). You will also get a sense of how to commission and project manage new writing, including how to angle a piece and give constructive and supportive feedback to writers.
This workshop is held in collaboration with Jom.
The title of this workshop is inspired by former parliamentarian and social entrepreneur Anthea Ong.
