Spoken word poetry is one of the most exciting forms of literature alive today. In this workshop you will learn how to turn stories from your life into moving spoken word poetry. You'll have the chance to learn techniques essential to writing, editing and performing a spoken word poem. You will also learn about the history and development of spoken word poetry around the world, and how to use words, literary devices, your voice and body to craft a captivating poetry performance, and where you can go to further develop your craft. Suitable for both beginners and experienced poets.

STEPHANIE CHAN has been performing poetry since 2008, has won national poetry slam championships in the UK (2012) and Singapore (2010) and represented both countries in international slams. Spoken word has taken her to festivals, theatres, classrooms and bonfires across 14 countries. She has run poetry and stand up comedy workshops for institutions including Lasalle College of the Arts and the National Library Board. She currently hosts Singapore's only monthly poetry night, Spoke & Bird and is the author of the poetry collection, Roadkill for Beginners (Math Paper Press 2019).
