An unpaid servant and a do-gooder find themselves on the fringes of society, though they aren’t exactly sure how they ended up there. Join authors H.Y. Yeang and Sebastian Sim as they question the reason why people live on the margins—be it human nature or economic and political circumstances—and how they write for their characters to walk along the line.
H.Y. Yeang grew up in Penang and joined the Rubber Research Institute after graduating from university. He rose to head the Biotechnology and Strategic Research Unit, a post he held until his retirement. He has authored and co-authored more than 200 research papers, and was elected a Fellow of the Malaysian Academy of Sciences. He is currently engaged in providing online editorial services.
Sebastian Sim grew up in a two-room HDB flat with parents who were part of the pioneer generation of independent Singapore. Not one to shy away from the road less taken, he has tried his hand in diverse industries: bartender at Boat Quay, assistant outlet manager at McDonald’s, insurance salesman, officer in a maximum security prison, and croupier in a casino. He published three Chinese wuxia novels between 2004 and 2012. And the Award Goes to Sally Bong! is his third English-language novel; Let’s Give It Up for Gimme Lao! was shortlisted for the 2015 Epigram Books Fiction Prize, and The Riot Act won the prize in 2017.
