Two artists in lockdown. A community relocated. A memory of a fire. Even within our tiny island, we move and are moved—while our lives and families move around us. A songwriter and a poet reflect on the stories we tell about being out of place in this city.
Theophilus Kwek has published five volumes of poetry, two of which have been shortlisted for the Singapore Literature Prize. He enjoys collaborating across genres. Kwek’s recent projects include commissions for the Royal Opera House, National Opera Studio and New Opera Singapore. His latest collection Moving House was released by Carcanet Press in 2020.
An unassuming raconteur, Vivien Yap writes stories into folk-driven, pop songs. A combination of infectious and brooding melodies paired with romantic lyricism, her music waxes lyrical of her struggles with identity and self-worth. Yap’s debut EP Fables was released in 2019 and she is currently working on her second EP.
