Speakeasy #28

  • Artistry 17 Sungai Pinang Singapore, 199149 Singapore (map)

The 28th session of Speakeasy, organised as always by the tireless Pooja Nansi, will take place at Artistry at 8pm. It will feature both Antoine Cassar and David Wong Hsien Ming.

Antoine Cassar is a Maltese poet whose iconic work, Passport, is embraced by so many on his international tours. He is the founder of the Facebook page "Spread Poetry, Not Fear", launched in reaction to the 2015 Paris bombings; he is also a translator, cultural organiser and a creative activist for migrants’ rights and universal freedom of movement.

David Wong Hsien Ming discovered poetry as a child at a Sunday lunch. His work is witness to moments and persons, and has appeared in publications like Quarterly Literary Review Singapore, Ceriph, and Mascara Literary Review. His first collection, For the End Comes Reaching, is published by Math Paper Press under the Ten Year Series imprint.

This edition of Speakeasy will take donations at the door, with all proceeds and sales going to The Humanitarian Organization for Migration Economics (HOME), a charity dedicated to upholding the rights of migrant workers in Singapore, including victims of human trafficking and forced labour.
