ABOUT

Nabilah Said is a playwright, poet and arts writer. Her play, Inside Voices, was staged in London in 2019 and published by Nick Hern Books. She presented two plays at the M1 Singapore Fringe Festival 2019, including festival highlight ANGKAT: A Definitive, Alternative, Reclaimed Narrative of a Native. Formerly an arts correspondent with The Straits Times, Nabilah writes reviews and features for ArtsEquator and Esplanade.com, and her poems have been published by Math Paper Press and Ethos Books.

WORKSHOPS

CHARACTER STUDY: A MONOLOGUE FOR SWORN ENEMIES
For: upper sec, junior college; 5–15 pax
Availability: 3 hours per session; single session
Description: Humanising your characters is one step towards creating a good play. Learn how to write a dramatic monologue for a character who you love to hate, using tools to help you write compelling characters. 
Learning Outcomes: How to use text, subtext, character motivation and character traits to write a monologue and write a believable character; how to use empathy and imagination to humanise characters. 

WRITE LIKE A JOURNALIST
For: upper sec, junior college; 6–20 pax
Availability: 3 hours per session; single session
Description: Everyone has a story. Using interview skills, analysis of material and organisation of info, learn how to write a newspaper article about an individual or event, in a way that hooks the reader. In the digital age, you'll have to think big – what could the headline be? What photos or media could accompany the text? What related content might be needed? 
Learning Outcomes: Learn interviewing skills, such as effective listening, questioning and using objects to get your interviewee to open up; how to write a newspaper article, and organise information (nutgraf, important info, supporting info, quotes, etc); how to incorporate digital media as a value-add for the writing.
