ABOUT
Cyril Wong (b. 1977) is the Singapore Literature Prize-winning author of over ten poetry publications, two short-story collections and a novel. He received the 2005 Young Artist Award from the National Arts Council and completed his doctoral degree in English Literature from the National University of Singapore in 2012.

HOW TO BE A WRITER
For: all students; min. 10 pax
Availability: 2 / 3 hours per session; single session
Description: The journey from first draft to publication. The attitude, processes & techniques to be a writer. The challenges & opportunities of being a writer in Singapore. This session will cover everything you need to know about what it takes to make a career out of writing.
Learning Outcomes: understand the steps, attitude and requirements of being a published writer in Singapore; how to confront the challenges of being a writer.
POETRY AS HONESTY
For: all students; min. 10 pax
Availability: 2/3 hours per session; single session
Description: How to write poetry that is honest and relevant, especially in the context of Singapore's literary scene; basic aspects of poetry like imagery, metaphor-creation and insight-formation, will be discussed. The workshop will also teach the link between authenticity and believability in the editing of poetry.
Learning Outcomes: how to write honest and relevant poetry; how to conceptualise and use literary devices to achieve insight; how to edit one's work for a specific purpose.
SINGAPORE LITERATURE 101
For: all students; min. 10 pax
Availability: 2/3 hours per session; single session
Description: Everything and anything about Singapore literature; all you ever wanted to know but were afraid to ask about local writing, packaged in one exciting lecture and Q&A session. Prior discussion with schools and teachers will be necessary to highlight key themes / figures to be discussed with students.
Learning Outcomes: a broader and deeper understanding about key topics in Singapore literature.
