Drawing from the act of reading and listening, Ng Chor Guan will activate Heterotopia Library one last time with the participatory performance Rituals to Books to celebrate its finale.
Joined by collaborators – gamelan player Rosemainy Buang, movement artist Zhao Zihao and Ruan player Neil Chua – Rituals to Books will tap into the action and movements of beings and non-beings (unintentional, latent and accidental) for a multi-sensorial performance. Extrapolating movements, amplifying and interpreting sounds around the Heterotopia Library, Rituals to Books: Finale will mark the conclusion of Heterotopia Library’s run, to bid goodbye and accord well wishes for the next project to occupy Ex-SITU space at SAM Residencies.
Heterotopia Library is a nomadic artistic research station which first took shape when Lingying and Winnie began their residency with SAM in July 2023. It is the second iteration of the Heterotopia series, a curatorial project that explores and evolves through rhizomatic spaces – transforming and shifting across a variety of activations through workshops, book launches, and conversations. Across the Singapore Art Week (SAW) weekends, Heterotopia Library will host its final slew of activations and thereafter celebrate its finale on Sunday, 28 January.
