Meeting in the Middle 2023: Unruly Bodies

  • 10 Square 181 Orchard Road Singapore, 238896 Singapore (map)

Meeting in the Middle is an annual women-led conversation organised by Ethos Books since 2017 as part of International Women's Day. These conversations focus on various intersections of identities, expertise and literature.

Join fat activist Aarti Olivia Dubey, martial arts practitioner Andrea Yew and Deafblind blogger Tan Siew Ling in conversation as they discuss the diverse, messy feelings and attitudes we hold towards our bodies, particularly when they do not conform to social ideals and conventional standards of beauty. Moderated by poet and artist Marylyn Tan, the panel will discuss how each of the participants reclaims, inhabits and thrives in their bodies, as well as interrogate ideas associated with "inspirational" bodies & discourse surrounding wellness and disability. Beyond oft repeated reminders of self-care and self-love, what does it mean to truly sit with ourselves at the end of the day?
