Why do we laugh? What makes us laugh? These are questions we seldom reflect on even when we habitually enjoy a good joke. If you wish to be funny (or funnier), this workshop will humour you by disclosing to you the secrets of humour. Gwee Li Sui will guide you to reflect on its logic, to differentiate its styles, and specifically to dissect funny writing. Participants will be involved in writing and editing for humour. If you consider yourself born without a funny bone, then this workshop is not for you. Come prepared to laugh with others, with yourself, and at yourself—and to celebrate life.
Gwee Li Sui is a poet, a graphic artist and a literary critic. His works include the graphic novel Myth of the Stone, seven poetry books—with the latest being This Floating World— non-fiction titles such as FEAR NO POETRY! and Spiaking Singlish, as well as Singlish translations of books by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, Beatrix Potter and the Brothers Grimm. A familiar name in Singapore’s cultural scene, he has written and lectured on a range of subjects too.
