Food is an integral part of Singapore's culture, and our hawker food has been recognised as part of the intangible cultural heritage of humanity by UNESCO. It is a source of meaning and wonderful memories for many people, and is part of our identity, heritage and personal histories.

In this workshop, poet and editor Daryl Lim Wei Jie, who co-edited the book Food Republic: A Singapore Literary Banquet, an anthology of literary food writing from Singapore, will speak about food writing in Singapore, including the process of editing the book. Participants will be given prompts and tips so they can also write their own food-related poetry and other types of writing. Joining him will be fiction writer Prasanthi Ram, who will share about her experiences writing her short story, The Panasonic, which is featured in Food Republic.

This programme is held in conjunction with the National Museum of Singapore exhibitions Home, Truly: Growing Up with Singapore, 1950s to the Present and Picturing the Pandemic.
