in this new world.jpg

in this new world: a presentation of regarding by Madeleine Lee brings together the spatial act of viewing an artwork with a performance of the written word. It commemorates the ekphrastic poems that Madeleine Lee wrote during her time as the National Gallery Singapore’s first Poet-in-Residence.

Devised as a special tour of our long-term exhibitions Siapa Nama Kamu? and Between Declarations and Dreams, in this new world takes visitors through the DBS Singapore Galleries and UOB Southeast Asian Galleries with multiple performance pit stops. It invites audiences to journey through a universe populated by fearsome fires, jostling street hawkers, sun-kissed fishermen, European monarchs and painters in the Nanyang style.

Presented by Cake and directed by Natalie Hennedige, in this new world features the poems of Madeleine Lee, with production design by neontights and sound design by Darren Ng.
