What does it mean to be a woman who writes poetry? Such a woman cannot be extricated from the politics of her identity and gender. To be feminist is to be egalitarian, and to be egalitarian in a partisan world can be disheartening - unless one can do something about it.

In this 2-day online workshop series with poet Deborah Emmanuel, walk into a room of your own and create a poetic work as a woman in an age of patriarchal decline. Explore the different aspects of feminism such as gender equality as well as the definitions of beauty and violence against women. With personal sharing from Deborah Emmanuel on her own writing and performance journey, write your own truth with poetry and share your voice through spoken word.

“Sisterhood & Twisted Roots: Feminism & Poetry” is organised by Sing Lit Station with support from the National Arts Council's Capability Development Scheme for the Arts (CDSA). Deborah Emmanuel is a multi-faceted artist whose works stretch across the mediums of the literary arts, music and theatre. With three publications under her name, Deborah Emmanuel is one of Singapore’s leading voices in poetry and spoken word.
