In commemoration of Clara Schumann's 200th birthday, The Opera People present, In Our Manner of Speaking: The Clara Schumann Project, a recital centering female composers and their voices, turning the spotlight onto these women who have shaped and transformed the art of the song.

From the romanticism of Clara Schumann and Pauline Viardot to the expressionism of Alma Mahler and Nadia Boulanger and the contemporary songs of Tania León, this programme extends beyond the classical world to include jazz singer-composer, Nina Simone, as well as the voices of women from the world of musical theatre, with iconic songs from Show Boat and Ragtime.

Join singers Rebecca Li, Ng Jingyun, Felicia Teo Kaixin and Michelle Tan, accompanied by pianist Pauline Lee, with readings by poet Pooja Nansi, as they celebrate women in song and poetry.
