The official categories of Chinese, Indian, Malay, and Others are outdated in Singapore where mixed marriages and immigration are increasingly a fact of life. More importantly, the categories can be seen as restrictive, divisive, or even alienating.
At this special event, organized by NYC-based literary non-profit Singapore Unbound, three up-and-coming young writers read their work and speak about their interrogations of this classification system.
There will be a short open mike (sign up on a first-come-first-served basis). The event is free and open to all.
