Make-A-Wish Singapore grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions – it could be anything; to meet their superhero, visiting their dream destination. Or like YK Riley, to be an author.
Nicole Lim, who goes by the pen name YK Riley, is an 18-year-old battling with Autoimmunie Hepatitis – a chronic illness where the body’s immune system attacks the liver to cause inflammation. Despite her condition, she has always remained optimistic in her outlook on life. Her life-long dream was to become an author and it will come to fruition with the launch of her first self-published book titled “Don’t judge a book by its cover”, which shares about “invisible” illnesses. She hopes to open readers’ eyes and heart to what it is like being a patient with chronic illnesses. In her book, which was completed entirely by herself, she describes her daily struggles with wit and tongue-in-cheek candor, making the book delightful and thought-provoking at the same time. Her wish was adopted by Performance Motors who have kindly agreed to sponsor a sum of money to cover the cost of this wish – the book publication, illustrations and printing of limited copies
The book is available for preorder on a pre-launch site, and there will be a book launch event in December, her birthday month. All proceeds will go to Save-Our-Street-Dogs (SOSD) organization, a dog shelter where she adopted her late dog from. Members of the public who have pre-ordered her book can come down to have their book autographed and meet Nicole in person.
